“…I want you to remember the
Ladies and be more generous and
are favorable to them than your ancestors.
Do not put such unlimited power
in the hands of husbands. Remember,
all men would be tyrants if they could.
If special care and attention is not
paid to the ladies, we are determined to
foment a rebellion, and will not hold
ourselves bound by the laws in
of which we have no voice or representation.
That your sex is naturally tyrannical
is a truth so well established that it
admit no dispute; but such of you as
wish to be happy voluntarily give up —
the hard tide of the master for the most
tender and endearing a friend.
Why, then, not take it out of the
power of the vicious and the
lawless to use us cruelly
and indignity with impunity?
Abigail Adamsin a letter to her
husband John dated March 31, 1776

“I raise my voice ― not so I can shout but
so that those who have no voice can be heard…
we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.

Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani Pashtun
advocate for the education of girls and women,
winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014

The purpose of WOW2 is to discover and honor successful women, including those who have been ignored or marginalized in most history books, and to mark moments in women’s history. It also serves as a reference archive on women’s history.

These pioneers have much to teach us about perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. I hope you find as much inspiration as I do in reclaiming our past..
