00 – The United States are 20 minutes away from their first trip to the Olympic semi-finals since the Sochi Games in 2014. It was there that they lost a 1-0 match against Canada, who would go on to win the Olympic gold. The Americans had already reached the semifinals in 2010 and 2002, both ending in defeats against Canada in the gold medal game.
20 – A group of beauties taking part in the game between USA and Slovakia:
01 – Slovakia kills the remaining 61 seconds of the American power play to start the period.
07 – American forward Brian O’Neill, who left the ice in the second period after taking a shot off the skate, is doubtful to return.
59 – A penalty is whistled against Martin Gernat for tripping. A real good chance for the United States to double the lead in the last period.
37 – Now, Slovak goaltender Patrik Rybár receives a late game penalty for covering the puck outside his crease. David Quinn calls a time out as USA prepares for a 5-on-3 power play.
50 – Slovakia kills 5 on 3. The US continued to move the puck into the offensive zone, but couldn’t take it after several chances. Brendan Brisson had the better chance but his wrist shot was denied by Rybár’s glove.
08 – Matty Beniers had a shot from the crossbar as USA slowly took control of this game. The score remains 2-1 in favor of the Americans, so every missed chance leaves the door open for Slovakia to get back into the game.
38 – Slafkovský hits the post and a raise is blocked by American goalkeeper Strauss Mann. The 17-year-old Slovak has stood out in every game of this tournament and will make the NHL very happy one day.
05 – Slovakia are now pressing hoping to get that first goal which will lead to another. Their sustained pressure in the American zone does not lead to any Grade A chances, however. Less than five minutes to play now.
39 – Samuel Takac takes a high batting call with 4:21 left. Luge tough ahead for Slovakia now.
40 – Slovakia kills, but USA did a good job of capitalizing on that power play. They kept the puck outside the Slovakian zone for most of the two minutes.
27 – Time out Slovakia and they will resume the match with an empty net down 2-1.
17 – GOAL! SLOVAKIA 2-2. Marek Hrivík tied the game at 2-2 as a shot from the point deflected midway and Hrivík was there to bring it home.
00 – And we’ll head into 10 minutes of 3-on-3 overtime to decide who will advance to the semi-finals.
